What is a "Dream XI" in fantasy cricket?
"Dream XI" is a phrase you see on Come Dream11, Dream11 App, and other fantasy-cricket marketing pages. It is a fantasy-sports term, not a separate product. This page explains what a Dream XI is, how the 11 slots are filled, and how the captain choice turns a Dream XI into a scoring lineup.

OpenDream XI meaning
A Dream XI is your 11-player virtual team. Linguistic and product clarification.
OpenA Dream XI is a virtual 11-player team
In fantasy cricket, a Dream XI is the 11-player virtual team you select for one contest. Each Dream XI picks real players from a real fixture. When the match is played, the players score points based on their real performance, and your Dream XI total is the sum of those points.
11 slots
You pick 11 players from the real squads in the fixture. A Dream XI follows the role balance rule: a defined number of batsmen, bowlers, all-rounders, and wicket-keepers.
One match, one XI
A Dream XI is locked to one fixture. Once the match starts (or the contest deadline passes), the XI cannot be edited for that contest.
A Dream XI is not the same as the playing XI
The playing XI is the real team on the field. Your Dream XI is a virtual team you select from both squads; it does not have to match the playing XI.
How the 11 slots are filled
Every fantasy platform publishes a role balance for the 11 slots. The exact split varies by contest type, but a typical IPL Dream XI looks like the table below.
Wicket-keeper
1–4 slots. Usually 1 in a standard Dream XI; some contests allow up to 8.
Batsman
1–8 slots. Often 3–5 in a standard Dream XI. Counts runs, boundaries, strike-rate bonuses, milestones.
All-rounder
1–8 slots. Players who bat and bowl — counted in both batting and bowling point buckets.
Bowler
1–8 slots. Counts wickets, economy bonuses, LBW / bowled bonuses, milestone bonuses.
Captain and vice-captain turn a Dream XI into a scoring lineup
A Dream XI without multipliers is just a sum of points. The captain and vice-captain choices apply multipliers that change the total — by a lot. This is the single biggest decision in fantasy cricket.
Captain (C)
A captain's score is multiplied by 2x. Picking the right captain often moves you up several thousand ranks in a large contest.
Vice-captain (VC)
A vice-captain's score is multiplied by 1.5x. The VC is the backup captain — used as a hedge when the captain choice has high variance.
C + VC from the same fragile plan
A common mistake: captain and vice-captain are both from one fragile role or one fragile matchup. If both fail, your Dream XI loses the multiplier twice.
Differential captain
In mega contests, picking a low-ownership captain can deliver a large rank jump when the player performs well. Risk and reward both rise.
What scores points inside a Dream XI
A Dream XI total is the sum of every player's points, then multiplied by the captain and vice-captain multipliers. The exact point formula is on the /en/points-system/ page; the headline events are below.
Batting
Runs, boundaries (4 / 6), strike-rate bonuses, half-century and century milestones, duck penalty.
Bowling
Wickets (with LBW / Bowled bonuses), economy-rate bonuses, three-wicket / four-wicket / five-wicket milestones, maiden overs.
Fielding
Catches (3 points each on most platforms), stumpings, run-outs (direct or assist).
Multipliers
Captain 2x, vice-captain 1.5x. The multiplier is applied to the player's final score, not just batting or bowling.

Is a Dream XI a different app from Dream11?
No. A Dream XI is your 11-player virtual team inside one fantasy-cricket contest. It is a feature term, not a product name. The app you use is the official Dream11 (or Come Dream11) product.
How many players are in a Dream XI?
11. The role balance (how many batsmen, bowlers, all-rounders, wicket-keepers) depends on the contest; a typical Dream XI is 1 wicket-keeper, 3–5 batsmen, 1–3 all-rounders, 3–5 bowlers.
What does captain and vice-captain mean in a Dream XI?
Captain's score is multiplied by 2x; vice-captain's by 1.5x. They are the biggest scoring decision in your Dream XI for that contest.
Can I change my Dream XI after the match starts?
No. Once the contest deadline (typically the toss) passes, your Dream XI is locked. Final edits must happen before the deadline.
Why is "Dream XI" sometimes used as a marketing phrase?
It is shorthand for "your 11-player team for this contest". Fantasy brands use it on checklists, captain-matrix tools, and IPL-specific landing pages to set the team-building context.
