Fantasy cricket points: batting, bowling, fielding, captain bonus

How fantasy cricket points are calculated: batting points (runs, boundaries, strike-rate bonuses, milestones), bowling points (wickets, economy bonuses, milestones), fielding points (catches, stumpings, run-outs), and the captain 2× / vice-captain 1.5× multipliers. Use the formulas below to estimate any player's expected fantasy score before you lock your XI. IPL-specific nuances (powerplay bonuses, death-overs wicket multipliers, DLS adjustments) are covered in /en/ipl/points-system/.

Fantasy cricket points

Batting points

Batting points are awarded for runs scored, boundaries hit, milestones reached, and strike-rate bonuses (when the batter scores faster than the run-rate threshold). Duck penalties apply for low scores in some formats.

Runs

+1 point per run scored off the bat. Extras (wides, no-balls) do not count toward the batter's score.

Boundary bonus (4)

+4 points for hitting a boundary (the ball reaches the rope after bouncing). Total for a 4: +5 (1 run + 4 bonus).

Six bonus

+6 points for hitting a six (ball clears the rope on the full). Total for a 6: +7 (1 run + 6 bonus).

Half-century (50 runs)

+4 bonus points when a batter reaches 50 runs. Total bonus for a fifty: +4.

Century (100 runs)

+8 bonus points when a batter reaches 100 runs. Total bonus for a century: +8.

Strike-rate bonus (T20)

+2 points if strike rate is 100-149.9; +4 if 150+. Applied at the end of the innings.

Duck penalty

-2 points if a batter is dismissed for 0 in T20 (wicket-keeper rules vary). Penalty applied to batters, not bowlers.

Bowling points

Bowling points are awarded for wickets taken (with bonuses for LBW and bowled dismissals), economy-rate bonuses (when the bowler concedes fewer runs than the economy threshold), and milestone bonuses (3-wicket, 4-wicket, 5-wicket hauls). Maiden overs add +4 points in most formats.

Wicket

+25 points per wicket taken. Includes all dismissal types caught, bowled, LBW, stumped, hit-wicket, run-out for the bowler.

LBW / Bowled bonus

+8 bonus points when the batter is dismissed LBW or Bowled (i.e. not caught). Total for an LBW / Bowled wicket: +33.

3-wicket haul

+4 bonus points when the bowler takes 3 wickets in the match.

4-wicket haul

+8 bonus points when the bowler takes 4 wickets in the match.

5-wicket haul

+16 bonus points when the bowler takes 5 wickets in the match.

Maiden over

+4 points per maiden over (an over with no runs conceded).

Economy-rate bonus (T20)

+2 if economy ≤ 6; +4 if economy ≤ 4. Bonus applies at the end of the innings.

Fantasy cricket points

Fielding points

Fielding points are awarded for catches, stumpings (wicket-keeper only), run-outs (direct or assist), and (on some platforms) half-century / century catches in T20. Most platforms award +8 per catch.

Catch

+8 points per catch taken. Catches at slip, point, deep, etc. all count.

Stumping

+12 points per stumping (wicket-keeper only). Higher than a catch because of the difficulty.

Run-out (direct)

+12 points for a direct-hit run-out (the fielder breaks the stumps without a throw from another fielder).

Run-out (assist)

+6 points for an assist run-out (the fielder throws the ball to break the stumps at the other end).

No fielding points for wicket-keeper standing back

Stumping points require the wicket-keeper to be standing up to the stumps. Standing back, only catches and run-outs count.

Captain and vice-captain multipliers

The captain's score is multiplied by 2×; the vice-captain's score by 1.5×. The multiplier is applied to the player's full final score (batting + bowling + fielding), not just one bucket. This makes the captain choice the single biggest scoring decision in fantasy cricket.

Captain (C) — 2×

A captain who scores 80 all-format fantasy points contributes 160 to your XI total. The same player as a non-multiplier contributes 80.

Vice-captain (VC) — 1.5×

A vice-captain who scores 80 contributes 120. The VC is the backup captain — a hedge when the captain choice has high variance.

Multipliers stack on milestones

Captain bonuses compound with milestone bonuses. A captain who hits a century scores (100 + 8) × 2 = 216 points in batting alone.

Choosing C and VC

See the captain-matrix guide for a 4-factor scoring framework (ceiling, role stability, ownership %, venue fit) and the contest-size tiebreaker.

How the points system shapes your XI

The points system gives you a clear way to estimate any player's expected fantasy score before locking your XI. Use it to validate your captain pick, your role balance, and your credit allocation.

Estimate expected score

Before locking your XI, estimate each player's expected fantasy score (batting + bowling + fielding + captain / VC multiplier). The total should beat the contest median to win.

Validate the captain pick

A captain with 2× multiplier should have an expected score at least 20% higher than the next-best candidate. If not, the captain differential is gone.

Find the credit-efficiency edge

Divide expected fantasy score by credit cost. The top 5–8 players in your XI by credit efficiency usually win contests, regardless of captain.

Re-check after every fixture

Most platforms publish post-match expected vs actual fantasy points per player. Use the data to refine your estimates for the next match.
