IPL points system: batting, bowling, fielding, captain bonus
IPL fantasy points system on most platforms: standard batting, bowling and fielding formulas (runs, boundaries, wickets, catches) with a few IPL-specific nuances — powerplay bonuses, death-overs wicket multipliers, super-over scoring, and DLS (rain-shortened) adjustments. Use the formulas below to estimate any IPL player's expected fantasy score before you lock your XI. OpenIPL batting points
IPL batting points are similar to T20 batting points on most platforms. The powerplay bonus (some platforms add +2 for runs scored in the first 6 overs) and the strike-rate bonus for high strike rates in a 20-over innings are the two IPL-specific nuances.
Runs
+1 point per run scored off the bat. Extras (wides, no-balls) do not count toward the batter's score.
Boundary bonus (4)
+4 bonus for hitting a boundary. Total for a 4: +5.
Six bonus
+6 bonus for hitting a six. Total for a 6: +7.
Half-century
+4 bonus when reaching 50 runs.
Century
+8 bonus when reaching 100 runs.
Strike-rate bonus (IPL)
+2 if strike rate 100-149.9; +4 if 150+. (Some platforms add +6 if strike rate 200+ in a low-score chase.)
Duck penalty
-2 if dismissed for 0 in IPL (batters only).
IPL bowling points
IPL bowling points use the standard T20 formulas with one IPL-specific nuance: death-overs wicket multipliers. Wickets in overs 16-20 typically earn +1.25 to +1.5× the standard wicket bonus on some platforms.
Wicket
+25 points per wicket taken.
LBW / Bowled bonus
+8 bonus for LBW or Bowled (not caught).
3-wicket haul
+4 bonus.
4-wicket haul
+8 bonus.
5-wicket haul
+16 bonus.
Maiden over
+4 points per maiden over (rare in T20 but possible on slow wickets).
Economy-rate bonus (IPL)
+2 if economy ≤ 6; +4 if economy ≤ 4.
Death-overs wicket multiplier
+1.25 to +1.5× the standard wicket bonus when the wicket falls in overs 16-20 (some platforms).
Fielding points in IPL
Fielding points in IPL are similar to T20 fielding points. Most platforms award +8 per catch, +12 per stumping, +12 for a direct run-out and +6 for an assist run-out. Some platforms add a "high-catch" bonus for spectacular catches, but the standard formula applies on most platforms.
Catch
+8 points per catch taken.
Stumping
+12 per stumping (wicket-keeper only, must be standing up to the stumps).
Run-out (direct)
+12 for a direct-hit run-out.
Run-out (assist)
+6 for an assist run-out.
No fielding points for wicket-keeper standing back
Stumping points require standing up to the stumps. Standing back, only catches and run-outs count.
IPL-specific nuances
Beyond the standard formulas, IPL fantasy contests have a few platform-specific nuances: powerplay bonuses, super-over scoring, and DLS adjustments for rain-shortened matches. Use these to refine your expected fantasy score.
Super-over scoring
Some platforms add a +8 bonus for any player who scores 10+ runs or takes 1+ wickets in a super-over. Check the platform's specific rules.
DLS adjustments
Rain-shortened matches (e.g. 5 overs per side) adjust the points formula: dot-ball pressure bonuses are larger; bowler milestone bonuses are smaller; captain differential matters more.
Powerplay bonuses
Some platforms add +2 for runs scored in the first 6 overs. Batters with high strike rates in the powerplay (e.g. Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head) benefit.
Captain and VC multipliers
Captain 2×; vice-captain 1.5×. Multipliers apply to the full final score (batting + bowling + fielding), not just one bucket.
